hey, anybody heard anything about the HK dvd release for it?? I can't wait, it should have been up for preorder by now...anyways can anybody confirm which company is releasing it? maybe Deltamac or Panorama? I know it hasn't gotten very good reviews, but personally I like it quite well, saw it at TIFF as well as Flash Point which was even better!

I haven't heard anything official, but I expect that we'll probably see it relased in late October or early November. Golden Scene released it, which probably means a Panorama DVD release. I'm sure it'll do much better on DVD than it did theatrically.
Sadly, I'll probably pick it up too, just because I'd like to own every movie where Chang Chen shoots people. |

Panorama was who I suspected might release it, they seem to be slower than average...Election 2 took almost 3 months to hit dvd. however, they tend to do good releases especially the special editions of Election/Election 2. if they can do a release half that good for Blood Brothers I wont complain. personally, I thought it was quite good (for recent HK cinema, or HK/Taiwan co-productions to be more precise) so I'm looking forward to the dvd release. true, it doesn't have anything on Bullet in the Head, but that would be an unreasonable expectation. however, it keeps in line with my opinion that the 2nd wave of films from the year I've seen (Eye in the Sky, Hooked on You, Invisible Target, Flash Point, Blood Brothers) was more satisfying than the 1st round (Protege, Twins Mission, Ming Ming, A Mob Story, Kidnap-with Protege easily being the best of the bunch). I guess I'll leave Wonder Women out of the equation, although it wasn't too bad. All I can say is bring on the 3rd round! (Exodus, The Detective, Mad Detective, Triangle, The Warlords) especially Triangle!! assuming Megastar releases Triangle on dvd since Media Asia is affiliated with it, it had better be out just in time for x-mas!

not being very familiar with Taiwan released dvds, how is the general video/audio quality compared to Hong Kong dvds? also, is the packaging generally as nice? and finally of course, would the movies be uncut/uncensored? hopefully the HK disc will come out by or before nov. 1st, otherwise as long as Taiwan dvds don't fall under any faults (being cut), then the Taiwan version it is for me!

Taiwan DVDs are a mixed bag, depending on the publisher. I would expect video/audio quality on this to be good, and I doubt there would be any cuts. Packaging depends on the publisher; Taiwan is not as English-friendly as Hong Kong, so it's not uncommon for packaging to be devoid of English.
In Blood Brothers' case, I expect it'll be as friendly as most Hong Kong releases simply because of the film's size. But I can't really predict at the moment. |

yeah, the only ones I have are old and of below average-to-bad quality...like Once Upon a Time in China IV, so I was wondering if they've improved over the years. I went ahead and preordered this at yesasia, but if a hong kong version shows up before the release date, I'll simply switch my order to get the hk version.
