Occasionally, I'll notice a DVD listed on Yesasia with a discount of... nothing (the HK "Armour of God" box, for example). Why is this?
By the way, I can confirm the Mahjong VCD has English subs (Creative Workshop CW VCD971007).

Greetings - my question is this -
Occasionally, I'll notice a DVD listed on Yesasia with a discount of... nothing (the HK "Armour of God" box, for example). Why is this? By the way, I can confirm the Mahjong VCD has English subs (Creative Workshop CW VCD971007). |

Hi dsulpy, sorry for the late response. However, I'm not sure I really have an answer to your question. I don't work on the sourcing-sales side of YesAsia, so I don't know their rationale behind what gets discounted and what doesn't. I suppose I could ask someone and see what they say.

Follow-up to dsulpy's query:
Basically, stuff is discounted for sales reasons. If it's selling really well, and they want to spur more sales, it'll get discounted. Conversely, if it's selling really poorly, and they want to spur more sales, it'll get discounted. In the case of that Armour of God box set, it's an item that sells consistently, but just so happens not to be the focus of any sales push. I suspect these strategies are much the same at retail. |

Hi Laziicat--
Sorry for the late reply to this: 1) This product seems to have joined the many Universe titles that are now falling out of press. You can see it here at YesAsia. Recent (5-10 year old) movies going OOP is a growing epidemic in HK, and has everything to do with the local audience's lack of interest in their own cinema. I personally suspect that Universe will one day start remastering (or at least reissuing) certain key titles, though I can't be sure this movie is among them. If you can't wait, then your best bet may be second-hand. 2) If you're talking about Onaji Tsuki wo Miteiru, I have no idea when they'll be releasing the DVD. Japan is notoriously fickle with release dates; some are within 6 months of theatrical release, while others can stretch to over a year. Also, we can't be sure if English subtitles will make it onto the disc. I think this should get a subtitled HK DVD release someday, as it has both Edison and Yusuke Kubozka, whose other films have made it to HK DVD. However, this probably won't happen until after the Japan DVD is released -- and again, I have no idea when that will be. 3) We have thought about adding some sort of reward system for good customer reviewers (besides the "Top 30" thing that was instituted), but there are no firm plans at the moment. Time is short right now. I probably won't be able to revisit our customer review system until early 2007. |

I had 2 copies of Portland Street Blues and sold them both. I wouldn`t have thought you would have trouble finding it. Try Amazon:

Hi Laziicat...
YesAsia.com now has a Region 3 HK version of Under the Same Moon, if you want to indulge in even more Edison Chen. You can find it here. |

The latest Yes Asia is giveaway is in your words probably the last - care to share?
I never won anything personally but I always really liked the giveaway idea! |

Re: Last YesAsia.com giveaway
|
The marketing program that sent giveaway discs my way for the past year will be coming to a close as 2006 ends. There will still be some chances for giveaways during 2007, but the frequency won't be the same, plus I won't have the ability to choose the prizes like I did this year.
It's just one of those things that's nice while we have it. And I liked hearing from the few winners who did write to me. There still may be the possibility for doing similar things in the future. I'll ask around. |

Re: OFFICIAL YESASIA.COM QUESTION THREAD

Is there a release date for "Death Note - The Last Name" yet?
For the longest time it's been sitting in the coming soon section. I checked just recently and it wasn't there so I got all excited and headed to the pre-orders section but it wasn't there either! Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: OFFICIAL YESASIA.COM QUESTION THREAD

Hi Hong Kong Dave,
I don't know of an official release date for Death Note: The Last Name but my assumption is you'll see it on DVD by late March/early April. The film followed the original DN by 2 months in the theater, so I wouldn't expect more from the DVD release. Yes, the above answer is all speculation. The sad truth is that Hong Kong DVD suppliers sometimes warn us of their new releases 48 hours before they actually get released. It's a strange business. |

Thanks for that - the DVD plus poster version of the sequel has now been listed but not the regular version as yet (the release date is listed as March 12th)

Any idea if the extras disc in the Death Note boxset has English subs? I'm guessing probably not but hoping it will have.....

Re: OFFICIAL YESASIA.COM QUESTION THREAD

Actually, I think the extras do have English subs...but they're also fluff like official press conferences and lots of insubstantial stuff like that.
I can check my box set copy later and get back to you. |

Re: OFFICIAL YESASIA.COM QUESTION THREAD

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the terribly late response to your inquiry. I was in Taiwan and away from my box set. All the extras on that Death Note 3rd disc are completely subtitled in English...but the extras themselves are total fluff. Just a series of on-set making-of stuff, and lots of promotion. I'm not sure it's worth a double-dip if you already have them. The box itself is okay. Nice to have both movies in the same package. |
