I actually liked his movie a lot, enough to consider hunting down a DVD copy. I agree with Kozo that the characters are unlikable and full of "the sort of selfishness that is so abundant in real life that its painful to watch on the big screen." Strangely enough though, that was the reason I liked it.
Sad reality. I liked the fact that they were both screwed up, that they both had a hand in the demise of the relationship and that the reasons of the actual death of their connection had to do with realities that both of them just couldn't change.
Aside from that, this was made at a time when Eason Chan wasn't too good at modulating himself onscreen, but pulled himself together admirably for this film, I think. I really enjoyed him belting opera in the car.
As for Cecilia Cheung, this film came at the time just before some awful person (Mani Fok, probably) told her that she was fat and needed to lose weight. So in this movie she's absolutely beautiful. I really liked the way she attacked this character -- the youth that Nicola Cheung warns Eason about really comes through. Both physically and emotionally/psychologically, her character just isn't ready, but she thinks she is and I thought it came through well enough.
Kozo is still right in that the film manages to interest, but not affect, but for some reason I find the experience of viewing this film pretty satisfying. I'm still trying to put my finger on it.

Thumbs Up!
