Greetings....
I write about food/film connections and wanted to do a post about Peking Opera Blues. The English subtitles leave a lot to the imagination.
Here is what I'm looking for a proper translation. At the time mark in the subtitle below, you see they refer to sukiyaki. But that seems to me to be a lazy translation since as far as I know sukiyaki is a Japanese dish, not Chinese. So while it could be a correct translation, I have a feeling it's not and hoping to find out if they are discussing a particular Chinese dish instead.
00:13:53,903 --> 00:13:55,492
We're having sukiyaki tonight?
00:13:55,678 --> 00:13:57,552
Sukiyaki? Potato!
also later there's this exchange:
00:43:40,741 --> 00:43:42,021
The General doesn't like
this kind of food
00:43:42,202 --> 00:43:43,827
Change it
00:43:54,312 --> 00:43:56,815
I like this dimsum
Is this a correct translation, just referring to "dim sum" generically or again was this possibly just an easy out in the translation. If they are referring to a specific dim sum dish, I'd like to know what it is.
I hope this doesn't sound too silly for you folks, but any help with this would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
