Sometimes a film arrives amid high expectations -- and then fails to meet them. Usually the movie isn't actually bad . . . it just doesn't come
close to what you expected it to be. These would be films that don't fall under the Best Film or Worst Film discussion topics. Not good, not bad, just
I'll start things off with a few Pang Brothers films:
The Eye 10 aka The Eye Infinity aka The Eye 3 -- Huh? Was this all I was waiting for, yearning for . . . drooling for? It was as though Danny and Oxide were coerced into making this one (sort of like a mid-term paper in high school), and just spat out some acceptable muck to get a passable grade.
Omen -- Not to be confused with the Hollywood classic -- not that anyone would ever possibly do that -- this had to have been one of the most confusing films ever put on the big screen . . . and yet I still had everything figured out the instant the female lead showed up. Perhaps they thought that by editing the film in such a way as to jumble up the scenes and make it difficult to decipher, that would conceal the blatantly obvious "twist" they had planned at the end?
Re-Cycle -- Sigh. I really wanted to like this one. Bringing back Angelica Lee from The Eye doesn't save this CGI-fest from mediocracy. Stunning visuals do not a good movie make; it takes a more coherent storyline and an ending twist that doesn't telegraph itself way in advance.
Ok, enough for now. Your turn.
