whoops my bad. Yeah my hk film education kind of doesn't extend before the 1980s.

i guess particularly as you said with the rise of cantonese cinema and the need for it to be dubbed also for the mandarin markets, it would make commercial sense to dub everything in post-production. And with the number of films hk was churning out, it'll save time and money too since on-location sound is such an absolute bitch to get right. Even most films now are generally ADRd in post-prod.
