My fifth time watching Suzhou he last night. Like every time, it gave me the shocks and surprises even when I thought I was too familiar with the film, its story, and the strong emotions lingering within.

Just a masterpiece. The script and the score coordinate like poetry; dialogues spoken by the narrator, who was never seen, added strength to scenes where no one spoke a word. The father drinking smuggled vodka while watching his "girlfriend" strip, for example, was interesting when the narrator talked about it without adding his personal opinions. ZX's change of emotions - from confused to realization to sad and to angry - in few seconds was just breathtaking. Her cuddling the doll, fondling it contradicts everything the other girl offers in her real life. As linear as The Double Life of Veronique seems, Suzhou he provided multi-parallels to a linear story that made it non-linear; it is, as if another dimension co-exists along with the same storyline.

I love this picture. Got 9.3 out of 10.
